Why it matters
The show has moved from clean single-target jobs to a job with hidden clients, which gives ITEM a threat that its previous missions never carried and gives Choubi a role distinct from Saiai's.
Key Facts

- A Certain Dark Item streams on Crunchyroll.
Lacking information, ITEM kidnaps the insurance CEO and fights a bodyguard who controls liquid metal. Choubi, the squad's second new member, stays fearful and outspoken.
Mugino's interest is in the fighting ring's money, not the insurance company's fee, and the episode leaves open that a second set of clients is using the insurer to break the ring for reasons of their own. That is the group ITEM cannot afford to upset, and it is the group they know nothing about.
The gap pushes them to kidnap the CEO they were hired by, which turns into a fight with his bodyguard, a liquid metal Esper who wants access to the windowless building. Choubi's opening scene shows she is not as ordinary as she looks: told not to be late, she defeats a hand print and eye scanner without registering that anything about it is wrong.
