Kodaka And Takada Trace Danganronpa's Music Back To A 20-Minute Theme
The panel's own account of the theme song and Monokuma as fast, improvised decisions says the series' identity came out of instinct, which is the useful part for anyone studying how Danganronpa's tone was actually set.

At The Tenth Mosaic, a game culture festival held at the Institut francais du Japon in Tokyo on September 22 and 23, Kazutaka Kodaka and Masafumi Takada discussed how Danganronpa's story and music shaped each other. Takada said he wrote the theme song "DANGANRONPA" in about 20 minutes after putting the title into the lyrics, and the Monokuma design arrived in roughly five minutes.
Kodaka said the only game sound creators whose names he knew at the time were Takada and Shoji Meguro, and the connection came through the producer. The first track Takada made was "Discussion -MIX-", written to a "groovy" order and reminiscent of rave music or pro wrestling entrance themes. Takada studied music at a vocational school and worked at Human before handling music at Grasshopper Manufacture for titles including killer7 and Flower, Sun, and Rain. The two now make games together at Too Kyo Games.
