Infinite Loop announced on July 2 that DLC for the virtual singers MEIKO and KAITO will launch simultaneously for the desktop mascot platform Desktop Mate on July 9. Each DLC costs 2,200 yen and will be available on Steam. The store pages are now open for wishlisting. The DLC includes newly produced 3D models supervised by Crypton Future Media, along with original motions and voices exclusive to Desktop Mate. MEIKO's motions include striking a dignified pose, making singing gestures, checking on the user and fixing her hair, relaxing with a drink, and waving when pinched. KAITO's motions include singing gestures, striking poses, eating ice cream, and leaving with a gentlemanly bow. With the addition of MEIKO and KAITO, all six Piapro Characters are now available in Desktop Mate. The base Desktop Mate software is free. Previous DLC has included Hatsune Miku, Sanrio Characters, and Kizuna AI.
The DLC will run on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) and macOS 26 Tahoe or later, with Apple Silicon required for Mac. The base Desktop Mate software is free on Steam. Infinite Loop, a Sapporo-based system development company founded in 2007, develops the platform. Its corporate motto is "Solo run at the tail end of the cutting edge."
MEIKO debuted on November 5, 2004, as the world's first Japanese-compatible virtual singer software. The DLC includes motions such as striking a cool pose, singing gestures, checking on the user and fixing her hair, relaxing with a drink, and waving when poked. KAITO debuted on February 17, 2006, as the first Japanese-compatible male virtual singer. His motions include singing gestures, striking poses, eating ice cream, and exiting with a gentlemanly bow. Both DLCs include original voices exclusive to Desktop Mate.
The press release notes that MEIKO is "a pioneer of visual virtual singers" and "a foundational figure loved by many fans and creators." KAITO is described as having a "gentle and gentlemanly voice" that "continues to gently embrace many people's hearts."
