Why it matters
Nintendo is using a free trial with save transfer and a Pikmin Bloom costume to pull mobile players toward the paid Switch 2 upgrade, and pairing it with a monthly short series to keep Pikmin in front of that audience between releases.

The trial covers the early Sun-Speckled Terrace area of Pikmin 4 and the introductory and some test stages of the new Dandori Challenge mode, and save data can be carried over. Clearing it earns a Mii costume for Pikmin Bloom. A Hello! Pikmin short movie series was also announced.
The trial's save data carries over to the full release, so progress in Sun-Speckled Terrace and the Dandori Challenge stages does not have to be replayed. Clearing the trial unlocks a Mii costume in Pikmin Bloom that puts the player on Oatchi.
The Dandori Challenge mode was detailed during the Pikmin Day Direct on October 31. The same program ended with the reveal of Hello! Pikmin, a short movie series that released one video on November 1 and has one more planned for November, then one video each month from December onward.
