Why it matters
Puroland is pairing its own monster-dressed characters with a Pop Mart character whose audience sits well outside the park's usual crowd, and the ride's teen-only age limit shows how far the Halloween programming this year leans toward horror.
The main attraction is a 360-degree immersive live show, with the monster Jack O' Happens voiced by Subaru Kimura. The Sanrio Character Boat Ride adds a Halloween-limited horror version directed and supervised by Obaken.
The park's monster theme runs past the stage show. Sanrio Character Boat Ride gets a Halloween-limited horror version, "Noroware Piero," directed and supervised by Obaken, and riders must be junior high school age or above. In the PUROMONSTERSCRAMBLE DJ TIME! segment, songs of the characters and past parade music are remixed into new arrangements. Goods include plush mascots of Sanrio characters in fluffy monster costumes, headbands and drawstring bags with matching ornaments, and items designed around LABUBU and Sanrio characters dressed as monsters. Food covers a Badtz-Maru orange craft cola, a Hangyodon tandoori chicken blue curry, and a LABUBU and PUROMONSTER almond peach parfait.
