Sega Opens Official Sonic The Hedgehog Discord Server
Sega is running its own community space at scale while its automated moderation is still catching innocent posts, so the first test of the server is whether bans get reversed before the audience drifts back to unofficial Sonic hubs.

Sega opened an official Sonic the Hedgehog Discord server on Monday, with 13 channels covering rules, news, games, movies, IDW comics, and clips. One day after the announcement, the server had nearly 100,000 members. Several users said on social media that they were banned, and the server's Launch Day Update Q&A page said an aggressive auto-mod may have accidentally banned users, with reviews to follow.
The server's Launch Day Update Q&A page addressed the bans directly, saying the auto-mod may have accidentally removed users and that the team would review the cases as things calm down. The same page said the auto-filter was aggressive enough to strip all-caps posts and flag innocent words, with plans to scale it back later. As of press time, posting was limited to users who had verified their identity.
The broader feed around the launch included screen captures of questionable material, and the Movies channel drew a user posing as Bubsy Bobcat whose comments stayed mild. Sega's Sonic games began on the Genesis in 1991 and continue with 2025's Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
