James Gunn's recent coverage splits between an anime industry summit and a DC Universe film. Crunchyroll named Gunn as a speaker for its inaugural Anime Future Forum, an invitation-only event at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York on October 7, 2026, one day before New York Comic Con opens at the same venue. He appears alongside Guillermo del Toro, with executives from Shueisha, Toho, MAPPA, and Aniplex also on the lineup.
Gunn attended the forum, posting a photo on Wednesday with rapper Big Sean and captioning it, "Always good catching up with my pal, this time at the Anime Future Forum." Crunchyroll announced the event in May 2026. The program includes a keynote, interactive sessions, and technology experiences, with more than 400 industry figures expected.
Separately, Gunn produces the DC Universe film Supergirl with Peter Safran. Craig Gillespie directs, and Milly Alcock stars as Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, alongside Eve Ridley and Jason Momoa. The film is scheduled for simultaneous release in Japan and the United States on June 26.
The film's music collaboration is with K-pop group LE SSERAFIM. Their song "CELEBRATION" was remixed for the movie and released as "CELEBRATION (Supergirl Ver.)" on streaming platforms, and the track also appears in the film itself.
