Kei Hozumi and Mito's manga Seishun wa Sankakukei no Loop will end with its next chapter in the November issue of Kadokawa's Dragon Age magazine, releasing in October. The series, which follows a love triangle among three childhood friends, launched in March 2025. Its first compiled volume shipped on September 9.
Netflix began streaming the final trailer for The Ribbon Hero, the new anime film based on Osamu Tezuka's Princess Knight manga, on July 30. The trailer previews the English dub and reveals five new cast members who play Sapphire's coworkers at a mining site. Yoshimasa Hosoya voices Rock, Mito Tsukino voices Hecate, Yusuke Tezuka voices Chorogy, Lunlun voices Chick, and Debidebi Debiru voices Tack. Mito Tsukino, Lunlun, and Debidebi Debiru are VTubers affiliated with NIJISANJI, and these are their first roles in a feature-length anime. The film stars Saya of comedy duo Lalande as Sapphire, in what Netflix says is her first leading role in a feature-length animated production. Seiran Kobayashi voices Pine, Koki Uchiyama voices Velvet, Mayumi Shintani voices Zirco, and Haruhiko Jo voices Pope. Yuuki Igarashi directs the film at his new studio OUTLINE, marking his feature-length directorial debut. The film premieres exclusively on Netflix worldwide on August 8. The story follows Sapphire, a princess who loses her homeland of Silverland to a calamity called Nergal, then finds hope in Goldland before Nergal returns.
ANYCOLOR announced on July 8, 2026, that a new line of merchandise themed around cherries, called Cherry Cherish, will go on sale at the Nijisanji Official Store starting July 9 at 18:00 JST. The lineup features six Nijisanji livers: Mito Tsukino, Kaede Higuchi, Yuka Shiina, Ririmu Makai, Meruto Kuramochi, and Berry Saotome. Eight product types are available, including glitter acrylic stands at 2,000 yen each, random heart-shaped can badges at 600 yen, random Cheki-style cards at 350 yen, sticker sets at 1,200 yen, cherry key holders at 2,000 yen, mini pouches with carabiners at 2,200 yen, sitting plushies from the Nijinui Goods series at 3,500 yen, and twin key holders from the Nijipuppet Customize series at 3,000 yen. Full-body visuals were illustrated by Chie Maeyama, and chibi characters by Tokaretamatama. Shipping is scheduled from mid-July 2026 onward. Purchase limits apply per item.
Automaton published a two-hour conversation between Grasshopper Manufacture CEO Goichi Suda and game designer Fumito Ueda, held at a Japanese pub on a rainy spring evening. Suda discussed his hands-on QA work on the new IP ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN, including last-minute bug fixes and tuning that frustrated his team. Ueda noted Suda's skill at adjusting sensory details like frame timing and enemy placement.
Nijisanji's Mito Tsukino will appear as a guest vocalist on Hakushi Hasegawa's new album "Sunao na Kimochi Album," releasing August 28 via Flying Lotus' label Brainfeeder. The album features a non-stop connected tracklist and contributions from tofubeats, Akkorinrin, and I-Land. Jacket art is by manga artist George Asakura.
Mito Aoi, known for School of Horns, is drawing a new manga titled Koko ni Fukuen Flag ga Tatteimasu, written by Meza Tōno. The story follows a divorced couple who reunite a decade later and consider restarting their relationship. The manga launched on Kodansha's Comic Days app on June 6.
In an interview at Summer Game Fest Play Days 2026, Fumito Ueda revealed that the player character in genDESIGN's upcoming title 'gen ATLAS' is a machine, not a human. The game is set after humanity's disappearance in a mechanical civilization. Ueda also explained the title's meaning and confirmed the project began with the idea of making a game about giant robots.
Fumito Ueda's studio genDESIGN officially announced its next title, gen ATLAS, during the Summer Game Fest 2026 livestream on June 6. The game is an open-world action-adventure set on a forsaken planet where players awaken without knowing why. The world is dotted with massive structures, abandoned facilities, and a changing sea, all traces of a lost civilization. Players encounter a giant robot whose power opens paths to previously unreachable areas. The trailer showed robot-versus-robot battles and small combatants running across the giant machines to find weak points, a mechanic that multiple sources compared to Shadow of the Colossus. gen ATLAS is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store, with Epic Games handling publishing. A teaser had appeared as a work-in-progress at The Game Awards 2024 under the working title Project Robot. No release date or price has been announced.
