Director Toshihisa Tada revealed that Nawam, the new villain in Star Wars: Visions: The Ninth Jedi, wields a blue lightsaber to create surprise, breaking the Sith red convention. The character's design, including a Japanese-style helmet, was developed with Naruto character designer Tetsuya Nishio, who produced seven or eight helmet designs.
The latest TV anime adaptation of Masamune Shirow's manga, Ghost in the Shell: The Ghost in the Shell, has released cast details and an end card for its third episode. Akio Otsuka voices Colonel Mares in Episode 3, titled JUNK JUNGLE ii + MEGATECH MACHINE i + ii, which began airing and streaming on July 21. Otsuka commented that the series was created under the concept of keeping the original flavor intact, and he expressed his love for the Ghost in the Shell franchise. The episode also features an end card illustrated by Kunio Okawara. The series is produced by Science SARU, with direction by Mocochin and series composition and script by Tow Ubukata. Maaya Sakamoto stars as Motoko Kusanagi, with Hiroki Yasumoto as Batou and Yuichi Nakamura as Togusa. The anime airs on Kantele and Fuji TV's Hi Anime!! slot on Tuesdays at 11:00 PM, and streams on Prime Video and other services. The story is set in 2029 and follows Public Security Section 9 as they confront cyber crimes and the mysterious hacker known as the Puppet Master.
The first period of the Tales of series 30th anniversary collaboration cafe, produced by ufotable and Production I.G, will run from July 28 to August 23, 2026. The cafe will be held at three venues: Machi★Asobi CAFE TOKYO, ufotable Cafe / Machi★Asobi CAFE Kitakyushu, and ufotable Cafe TOKUSHIMA. A total of 188 newly drawn illustrations covering all mothership titles were created for the project, with Akira Matsushima and Tokuyuki Matsutake serving as main key animators. The illustrations were first announced in April 2026. Newly revealed artwork for Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Destiny, Tales of Eternia, and Tales of Xillia has been posted on the special website, with additional illustrations scheduled to be added each month. The cafe will offer menus and goods themed around the illustrations, with details for the first period to be announced later. An online instant-win lottery using the illustrations, called ufotableWEBSHOP lottery, will also be held, with further information to follow.
Lucasfilm and Production I.G released the first full trailer for Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi during a panel at Anime Expo on Thursday. The trailer confirms the limited anime series will premiere on August 5 on Disney+ and Hulu. The panel also screened the first episode in Japanese with English subtitles. The series expands the story of "The Ninth Jedi," a short from the first Star Wars: Visions anthology volume in 2021. Kenji Kamiyama, who wrote and directed the original short, returns as supervising director and series script supervisor. Shunsuke Tada directs the new series. Hitoshi Itō produces, and Lucasfilm's Jacqui Lopez and Josh Rimes are executive producers. The project was first announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025. A sequel short titled "The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope" debuted as part of Star Wars: Visions Volume 3, which premiered on October 29, 2025. The new series follows Kara, the daughter of lightsaber smith Juro, as the Jedi attempt to rebuild after the Order's fall.
