RTA-chan's Summer Vacation Event Runs August 9 to 15

RTA in Japan's organizers released the full schedule for the large-scale speedrunning event "RTA-chan's Summer Vacation" on August 1, 2026. The event runs from August 9 to 15 and is organized by volunteers who rent RTA in Japan's streaming channel. Skilled players from venues across Japan and online will perform non-stop RTA runs of various game titles throughout the week. The lineup spans well-known titles such as "Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot," "Dragon Quest VII Reimagined," "Tales of Berseria Remaster," "Super Mario World," and "Resident Evil 3," alongside more unusual picks like "Major Wii: Perfect Closer," "GeoGuessr," "Chatan Yara Kushanku," and "Ketsu Battler." The schedule is available on the event's official page and schedule list. The event is separate from RTA in Japan's main seasonal events, which have previously faced scrutiny over Nintendo title availability and harassment policies. The organizers have also announced strengthened reporting procedures for harassment following violations discovered during "RTA in Japan Summer 2025."

Yoko Taro Asks Square Enix to Explain Dragon Quest VII Reimagined Art Direction

Yoko Taro, creator of the NieR series, approached Denfaminicogamer in March 2026 with an unusual request: interview the team behind Dragon Quest VII Reimagined so he could learn how its in-game art was achieved. The resulting feature reveals art director Tatsuro Asano, a self-taught illustrator who worked at an eyeglass store until his mid-30s, used photogrammetry of actual dolls and a four-tone black-and-white blur process to create the game's diorama-like visual style.
