Witch on the Holy Night

The Witch on the Holy Night anime film has moved from announcement to locked production. The project was first revealed in December 2021, and ufotable confirmed in May 2026 that the original visual novel's voice cast would return: Haruka Tomatsu as Aoko Aozaki, Kana Hanazawa as Alice Kuonji, and Yusuke Kobayashi as Soujyuro Sizuki. A July 7 event set the Japanese premiere for November 20, 2026, and a final trailer on October 3 confirmed the staff: Masashi Takeuchi directing, Moe Tsuzuki on character design, Masato Nagamori as chief animation director, Hikaru Kondo as chief director, Hideyuki Fukasawa on music, and a theme song, "Yoru to Ao," by supercell. ufotable handles animation and script production.

Distribution has expanded beyond Japan. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment set a U.S. and Canadian run for January 29, 2027, in Japanese with English subtitles and with an English dub. International dates open January 21 in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, move through Austria, Germany, and German-speaking Switzerland on January 26, France, Belgium, and French-speaking Switzerland on January 27, and a larger group including Mexico, Brazil, Italy, Australia, and New Zealand on January 28. The United Kingdom, Ireland, Finland, Poland, Sweden, and India share the January 29 date, with Spain and Kazakhstan on February 5.

The film also pulls the source material forward. The visual novel's smartphone version releases in Japan on November 20, the same day as the film. The original is set in the late 1980s and follows Aoko Aozaki, a reluctant heir to a family of mages, training under the witch Alice Kuonji and meeting the transfer student Soujyuro Sizuki. A fully voiced HD remaster launched on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam, and the PS4 and Switch versions sold over 150,000 copies worldwide. ufotable also tied the property to its Awa Odori merchandise line in August 2026, selling items at its Tokushima and Bizan cafes.
