Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will screen it in the United States and Canada on January 29, 2027, in Japanese with English subtitles and with an English dub. Returning cast include Haruka Tomatsu as Aoko Aozaki, Kana Hanazawa as Alice Kuonji, and Yusuke Kobayashi as Soujyuro Sizuki. The original visual novel's smartphone version releases the same day as the film in Japan.

The final trailer runs 90 seconds and also reveals the rest of the crew: Nana Ishigo and Masato Nagamori on sub-character design, Masato Saitō on prop design, Yuichi Terao as compositing director of photography and finishing technical director, Gōchū Satō as 3D director, Koji Eto as art director, Mika Matsuoka as color key artist, and Manabu Kamino on editing.

Supercell's "Yoru to Ao" (Night and Blue) was written, composed, and arranged by ryo, with Nagi Yanagi on vocals.

The film adapts a visual novel set in the late 1980s. Aoko Aozaki is one of two sister heirs to a long family line of modern mages. She is uninterested in magic but is declared heir to the family's magical art and reluctantly apprentices under Alice Kuonji, a young witch who lives in a lonely manor atop a hill. She balances her studies with her role as student council president and meets Sōjūrō Shizuki, a transfer student unfamiliar with the modern world, while contending with the plots of her older sister Tōko Aozaki.

The novel was one of the first collaborations between Kinoko Nasu and artist Takashi Takeuchi in the mid-90s, before they founded Type-Moon. It began as a novel shown only to friends, then became a visual novel with graphics by Hirokazu Koyama that shipped in April 2012, with two sequels planned.
