Why it matters
emaqi is buying its subscriber shelf two ways at once, eight exclusives of its own and five established Viz Media manga, which puts the AI localization company's storefront in direct competition for the same monthly reader.
Key Facts
- Orange Inc. announced on Tuesday that its emaqi e-bookstore is adding eight exclusive titles this month.
- Five of the eight exclusives will be available through the emaqi Premium monthly subscription.
- Viz Media's Naruto, Kaiju No. 8, Black Torch, SPY x FAMILY and Dr. Stone have been added to emaqi Premium.
- How Did We Even Do It?! by Keigo Hayasaka releases on November 3.
- Bachi-Bachi BURST by Takahiro Sato releases on November 20 through emaqi Premium.
The service also adds five Viz Media manga to emaqi Premium: Naruto, Kaiju No. 8, Black Torch, SPY x FAMILY and Dr. Stone. The exclusive titles include How Did We Even Do It?!, I'd Rather Die Than Call You Cute!, Kirin, Higanjima: Isle of Vampires and Bachi-Bachi BURST.
The eight exclusives arrive on a staggered schedule rather than one date. How Did We Even Do It?! is out November 3, followed on November 6 by I'd Rather Die Than Call You Cute! and Kirin, both through emaqi Premium. Higanjima: Isle of Vampires lands November 13, and Bachi-Bachi BURST on November 20, also through Premium.
The Viz Media additions are all subscription titles. Naruto, Kaiju No. 8, Black Torch, SPY x FAMILY and Dr. Stone now sit alongside the exclusives on the paid tier, which splits the month's catalogue between titles readers can only get on emaqi and titles they can also find elsewhere.
