METRO 2039 New Trailer Debuts at Gamescom Opening Night Live

At the gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 broadcast on August 26, 4A Games revealed a new gameplay trailer for METRO 2039, the next entry in the survival horror FPS series based on the novels by Dmitry Glukhovsky. Executive Producer Jon Bloch and Co-Creative Director and Audio Lead Pavel Ulmer appeared on stage. The footage showed combat against mutants and humans, along with the series' familiar weapon customization system. The game is set in the post-nuclear-war Moscow metro, the origin point of the series, six years after the events of METRO 2033. The story follows Stranger, a former Spartan recluse who returns to the underground, and is the first fully voiced protagonist in the mainline series. The setting features a new fascist faction called the Novo Reich, led by the former hero Hunter. METRO 2039 is scheduled for release in February 2027 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Metro 2039 Launches February 2027, Reveals Story and Gameplay

Publisher Deep Silver and developer 4A Games announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 on June 8 that the next installment in the Metro series, Metro 2039, will launch in February 2027. The game is the fourth entry in the post-apocalyptic FPS series, based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's novel trilogy. It is a story-driven single-player title set in the Moscow metro after a nuclear war. The newly released trailer introduces a faction called Novo Reich, which has taken control of the metro. Its leader is Hunter, a former member of the elite Spartan unit who promises life on the surface while ruling through propaganda and fear. The protagonist, Stranger, is tormented by nightmares and embarks on a journey back to the metro he swore never to return to. The trailer also showed combat gameplay and an upgraded gadget-like charger. The game will be available on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store, as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
