METRO 2039 New Trailer Debuts at Gamescom Opening Night Live

At the gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 broadcast on August 26, 4A Games revealed a new gameplay trailer for METRO 2039, the next entry in the survival horror FPS series based on the novels by Dmitry Glukhovsky. Executive Producer Jon Bloch and Co-Creative Director and Audio Lead Pavel Ulmer appeared on stage. The footage showed combat against mutants and humans, along with the series' familiar weapon customization system. The game is set in the post-nuclear-war Moscow metro, the origin point of the series, six years after the events of METRO 2033. The story follows Stranger, a former Spartan recluse who returns to the underground, and is the first fully voiced protagonist in the mainline series. The setting features a new fascist faction called the Novo Reich, led by the former hero Hunter. METRO 2039 is scheduled for release in February 2027 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 to Stream With Japanese Subtitles on Niconico

Dwango announced on August 17 that it will live-stream gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 with Japanese interpretation subtitles on Niconico Live. The stream is scheduled for August 26 from 3:00 AM to 5:00 AM Japan time, ahead of gamescom 2026, which runs from August 26 to 31 in Cologne, Germany. The event will feature trailers for SILENT HILL: Townfall and FF7 Revelation, plus new information and gameplay footage for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past expansion. gamescom 2026 is the largest edition ever, with all exhibition floors sold out for the first time in the event's history. Exhibitors include Nintendo, Bandai Namco Entertainment, Capcom, Sega, Konami Digital Entertainment, Xbox, and EA. Embracer Sets Kingdom Come and Darksiders 4 for FY2027/28

Embracer Group's Q1 FY2026/27 report places the next Kingdom Come title, Darksiders 4, and Tomb Raider: Catalyst in FY2027/28, spanning April 2027 to March 2028. The Middle-earth RPG from Warhorse Studios is not listed for that window. Metro 2039 hit 1 million wishlists faster than any prior Embracer title.

Metro 2039 Launches February 2027, Reveals Story and Gameplay

Publisher Deep Silver and developer 4A Games announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 on June 8 that the next installment in the Metro series, Metro 2039, will launch in February 2027. The game is the fourth entry in the post-apocalyptic FPS series, based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's novel trilogy. It is a story-driven single-player title set in the Moscow metro after a nuclear war. The newly released trailer introduces a faction called Novo Reich, which has taken control of the metro. Its leader is Hunter, a former member of the elite Spartan unit who promises life on the surface while ruling through propaganda and fear. The protagonist, Stranger, is tormented by nightmares and embarks on a journey back to the metro he swore never to return to. The trailer also showed combat gameplay and an upgraded gadget-like charger. The game will be available on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store, as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
