Voice Actor Michael Donovan Dies at 72

SAG-AFTRA's summer 2026 magazine lists Canadian voice actor Michael Donovan as having died on March 4. He was 72. Fellow voice actor Ian James Corlett posted about Donovan's death after learning of it from the magazine. Donovan voiced Ryoga Hibiki in the original Ranma ½ anime and other roles.

Ace Combat 8 Gets First Domestic Showcase at Tokyo Game Show 2026

Bandai Namco Entertainment announced on August 5 that it will exhibit five titles at Tokyo Game Show 2026, held at Makuhari Messe from September 17 to 21. The main booth in Hall 5 will feature playable demos for 'ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE', 'Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3', 'One Piece: Sea of Delights Restaurant', and 'Bleach Mirrors High'. 'Tales of Eternia Remaster' will be present but only with a reservation campaign, no demo. 'ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE' is scheduled for release on October 2, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. It is the first in the series to feature a first-person perspective in its drama parts, and this will be its first exhibition at a domestic game event. Public days from September 19 to 21 will require a numbered ticket for the demo, distributed at the booth. Demo participants receive an original sticker. The Family Game Park at TKP Tokyo Bay Makuhari Hall will offer demos of 'Once Upon a Katamari' and 'Tamagotchi Petit Petit Store: Welcome! Nintendo Switch 2 Edition'. The ASOBI STORE satellite booth in Hall 11 will sell advance merchandise for 'Ace Combat 8', the 'Tales of' series, Katamari, Pac-Man, and Taiko no Tatsujin.

Full Power Frieza Joins S.H.Figuarts as Battle Scarred Edition

BANDAI SPIRITS announced the S.H.Figuarts Full Power Frieza -Battle Scarred Edition- action figure, reproducing the character's appearance from the fierce battle on Planet Namek in Dragon Ball Z. Pre-orders open Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 16:00 through Premium Bandai. The figure carries damage paint across the entire body, inspired by scenes from the series, and includes a newly created defeated face expression part. A bonus part is an exchangeable head compatible with the separately sold S.H.Figuarts Super Saiyan Son Goku -Legendary Super Saiyan- figure, recreating the moment Goku reverts from Super Saiyan with his hair blowing in the wind. The figure stands approximately 125mm tall, made of PVC and ABS, and includes the main body, three types each of exchangeable left and right hand parts, three exchangeable head parts, exchangeable left and right ankle parts, and a tail part. The price is 9,900 yen including tax, with shipping scheduled for March 2027. BANDAI SPIRITS is the manufacturer. The product page notes that orders may close early if the preparation quantity is reached.

Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO DLC 'NEO' Launches With Hironobu Kageyama Theme Song

Bandai Namco Entertainment released the major downloadable content 'NEO' for Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO on July 30, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The DLC adds over 30 new playable characters, including Bardock (Super Saiyan), Super 17 (GT), and Piccolo Daimao, along with new stages, costumes, techniques, and a single-player mode called 'Path to Limit-Breaking Breakthrough.' A free patch also went live, updating the game to version 3020.019.003.012.013 with balance adjustments and new features like Linked Blast and Sparking! Boost. To mark the release, an opening movie featuring the theme song 'ZERO' by Hironobu Kageyama was published. Kageyama wrote the music and lyrics himself, marking his first new Dragon Ball game theme in 18 years, since 'Battle of Omega' for Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 in 2010. The song is available for purchase starting at 255 yen or $1.29. A limited-time discount offers 25% off the NEO Edition and Legendary Edition for Steam and PS5 PlayStation Plus subscribers until August 13. Bandai Spirits Announces Three S.H.Figuarts at San Diego Comic-Con 2026

At San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Bandai Spirits announced three new S.H.Figuarts figures from major anime franchises. From 'Naruto Shippuden', the S.H.Figuarts Minato Namikaze [Kurama Link Mode] -The Flash That Tears Through Darkness- includes kunai and a Giant Rasengan effect part. From 'My Hero Academia', the S.H.Figuarts Dark Deku figure reproduces battle-damaged costume details and dirt with precise sculpting and coloring. Both figures will open for pre-order in Japan at the Premium Bandai Tamashii Web Store on July 28, 2026 at 16:00 JST. From 'Dragon Ball Z', the S.H.Figuarts Full Power Frieza -Battle Scarred Edition- was also announced, but further details on its release are pending. Pre-orders for the Minato and Dark Deku figures began in North America on July 25, 2026. The announcements were made via the Tamashii Nations official X account during the convention.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero DLC 'NEO' Launches July 30 With 33 New Characters

Bandai Namco Entertainment announced on July 23 that the 'Limit-Breaking Super Breakthrough NEO' DLC for Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero will launch on July 30, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The DLC adds 33 new playable characters, including Chi-Chi, King Piccolo, Mercenary Tao, General Blue, Android 8, Nam, Grandpa Gohan, King Vegeta, Pikkon, Mighty Mask, Supreme Kai, Super Saiyan Bardock, Chilled, Super Android 17, Nuova Shenron, Jaco, Cheelai, Champa, and alternate versions of Goku, Tien, and Piccolo from the original Dragon Ball anime. A new solo mode, 'Path to Limit-Breaking' (also called 'Limit Breaker Journey'), lets players select a character, travel to destinations, fight battles, and level up. Characters consume stamina when moving, and lower stamina reduces starting health but yields more experience from tougher fights. The mode includes 'Battle Arts' for status enhancements, and improved stats carry over to other game modes. The DLC also adds over 20 new costumes and super attacks, four new stages, new Episode Battles for four characters, and more Extra Battles. A free update adds 'Sparking! Boost' and 'Chain Blasts' mechanics. Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch versions will receive the DLC at a later date.

Bandai Announces Dragon Ball DUAL BURST Figure Series for Late July

Bandai will release a new Dragon Ball figure series called DUAL BURST as gashapon in late July. The lineup includes four figures: Super Saiyan Son Goku, Frieza Fourth Form, Super Saiyan Son Gohan, and Cell Perfect Form. Each figure costs 500 yen. The figures are designed to be displayed individually or paired together to recreate famous battles from the series, such as Goku vs. Frieza on Planet Namek and Gohan vs. Cell during the Cell Games.
