Electronic Arts announced on October 22, 2026 that it will close BioWare and cancel the next Mass Effect project in early development there. BioWare, founded in 1995 and acquired by EA in 2007, made the Mass Effect and Dragon Age RPG series; its most recent release was Dragon Age: The Veilguard in November 2024, and a new Mass Effect had been announced in 2020. The Edmonton office closes with the studio. EA framed the decision as difficult and called BioWare a studio that shaped the RPG genre. Bloomberg reported roughly 400 layoffs expected across EA, including at BioWare. EA said it will keep investing in DICE's Battlefield 6, Respawn's Apex Legends, the in-development Marvel's Iron Man, and the next STAR WARS Jedi entry, and that DICE and Respawn will combine strengths on future projects. BioWare confirmed the closure in its own statement on X and said the in-progress Mass Effect project ends, without addressing the future of the IP.

The original one-shot ran in the special Young Magazine US English issue in August 2025. Crunchyroll will stream English dubs for the new Magic Knight Rayearth anime and the second season of Sasaki and Peeps on Wednesday. Rebecca Chiara Marano, Bryn Apprill, and Kelly Greenshield lead the Rayearth cast as Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu, with Caitlin Glass voicing Emeraude. Furyu began distributing a free demo for its roguelike action game CRYMELIGHT on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22, following an earlier PC demo on Steam. The console demo includes the entire first chapter of the main game, which Furyu estimates at 1.5 to 3 or more hours of play. Players control Alice, an amnesiac girl summoned to a prison called Wonderland, where invited guests fight to defeat the Queen and win freedom. The demo covers the basic loop: story scenes, battles using attacks, strong attacks, invincible dodges and grabs, and skill cards that combine like poker hands to raise effect levels. A second trailer, Feature Battle, also went live, showing the Anchor weapon plus Spear and Magic. Furyu plans to adjust Story mode difficulty after 55.6 percent of Steam demo players who chose Story mode picked the hardest setting. The full game is scheduled for November 5 on PS5, Switch 2 and PC.

Square Enix released Final Fantasy Resonance on October 22, with the Steam version following on October 23. It is built on the concept of what Final Fantasy would look like if it had kept evolving as pixel art, and uses HD-2D plus Cinematic Pixel to render 3D scenes as pixel art. The standard edition costs 7,678 yen and the Digital Deluxe Edition 9,878 yen. Cloud, Terra, and Clive appear, and players equip Vision Crystals to learn abilities.

Mob Entertainment has released Escape from Playtime in early access on PC via Steam today, October 22. The co-op survival horror game supports up to four players as the Smiling Critters, first seen in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3, exploring the abandoned Playtime Co. factory. Early access includes eight characters, one starter area, and multiple main enemies. The early access period is planned to last one year.

The soundtrack holds all 8 songs, including Petite Meller's ending theme "Watson (feat. Oslo Green)," Rico Nasty's "You Can't Run From Me," and DOUDOU's "A Rusty Dream." Embark Studios began Season 12 of THE FINALS, subtitled PRIME TIME, on October 20, 2026. The update adds Solo Showdown, a 12-player free-for-all tournament with three rounds in which the four players holding the least cash are eliminated each round and the highest earner after round three wins. Automaton reports it entered as a beta, with each round's rules drawn at random from eight mini-modes, including one where only ring-outs score kills and one where a single shot or melee hit is lethal. The Light build gains the Truesight specialization plus Mimic Device and Translocator gadgets. Dynamism 2.0 reworks destruction so buildings twist and sag in stages instead of collapsing at once. Monaco, Seoul and Skyway Stadium were remastered, and Sponsors 3.0 adds a Handler character. Dynamic Commentary, trialed on some content, has announcer Scotty call players' names during matches.

The PHP Group confirmed two critical vulnerabilities in PHP on October 20 and scheduled a security release for 23:00 JST on October 21. Both are rated 9.2 on CVSS v4.0. In response, Cygames titles including Uma Musume Pretty Derby, Granblue Fantasy and Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond announced emergency maintenance centered on the patch's release. Uma Musume later moved its start to around 22:00, while Granblue Fantasy runs from 22:00 October 21 to 07:00 October 22. Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond has no set end time. Heaven Burns Red planned maintenance from after 22:30. Dolphin Wave, developed by Marvelous and HONEY∞PARADE GAMES, announced maintenance from around 23:00, and Sega's CHUNITHM will service CHUNITHM-NET and its official site, but arcade cabinet play using Aime remains possible. IPA says no exploitation has been confirmed and issued the warning as a precaution. The PHP Group says affected versions will be disclosed with the release.

Movic is taking pre-orders on the Kadokawa Store for six layered acrylic art panels: Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len, Megurine Luka, MEIKO, and KAITO. The characters wear original winter costumes inspired by the constellation Orion, drawn by aruk. Each panel separates character and background across two printed layers on a slab about 14 by 10.5 cm and 10 mm thick, so it stands without a base. The trial covers Chapter 1, "913," in which library committee members Jiro Horikawa and Shimon Matsukura take on a safe left behind by their deceased grandfather. iMel handles development, with mystery design by Nozomu Unabara of Liar-soft. Hamster will release Console Archives Raiden Project for Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 on October 22, priced at 1,200 yen. The collection bundles Seibu Kaihatsu's Raiden and Raiden II, the 1995 compilation originally made for 32-bit home consoles, in a single package with one to two player support. Players fly the super-high-altitude bomber Raiden through vertical-scrolling stages, using shots, bombs, and item-based shot switching against fast enemy fire. Hamster's Console Archives line reissues home console titles for current hardware with button and screen customization plus save and load anywhere. The included software is the Japanese version only; the overseas version is not part of the package, and ASCII.jp lists the in-game text as English only while 4Gamer states the text is Japanese only, a discrepancy the sources leave unresolved. Players worldwide share one character and queue for turns of one minute each, then pass control to the next person. Losing five lives also ends a turn.
