Square, the payment service founded by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, announced Square Kiosk, a restaurant payment terminal with a 21.5-inch display and three directional microphones. It shows menus, suggests items based on store location and time of day, takes orders by voice, and accepts card payments. Price is $1,999 with a $99 monthly software fee. At the time of writing it is sold only in the United States, in English.

Square Enix began distributing a demo for VAULTBREAKERS, the top-down extraction action RPG developed by Copenhagen studio BetaDwarf, on Steam on October 9, 2026. The demo lets players pick one of two characters, the elven ranger Nymera or the ice-focused warrior Bjornir, and explore the early-game map either solo or in co-op for up to three players. Expeditions send players into a corrupted field to collect ancient relics; anything not carried back to the Safe Haven base is lost. BetaDwarf announced the shadow drop and the publishing deal during the Triple-i Initiative Showcase broadcast. The full version is planned to add a PvPvE mode and five heroes, with the three characters absent from the demo scheduled for an alpha playtest on Steam from October 16 to 23. A release date and price are undecided.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition is out on Nintendo Switch 2, and the Switch version's compromises are gone. The release is a Game Key Card, so a physical copy still requires a download, and owners of the Switch version cannot upgrade: the Switch 2 edition is a separate SKU, and saves do not carry over.

Amazon's on-demand print service Merch on Demand now carries apparel from Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles. The lineup has T-shirts and hoodies printed with pixel versions of Ramza and Delita and of Agrias and Ovelia, plus two Zodiac designs. Shirts run from 3,000 to 3,600 yen, hoodies 6,200 yen, in men's, ladies', kids', and unisex sizing across several body colors.

Square Enix will release Dragon Quest Weapons Collection Vol.2 on January 30, 2027. Single items cost 1,870 yen, and a 6-piece BOX costs 11,220 yen. The figures are roughly 1/12 scale and cover the Falcon Blade, Sword of Heaven, Battle Axe, Gringham Whip, Staff of Thunder, and Shield of Heaven. Each weapon includes a pedestal for display.

Square Enix released "Torneko's Great Adventure: Mystery Dungeon: A Little Nice Remaster" on September 10, 2026, a remastered version of the 1993 Super Famicom title. Square Enix announced the stage lineup for Fan Festival 2026 in Tokyo, the Final Fantasy XIV fan event running October 31 to November 1, 2026. THE PRIMALS close the event with a paid special live. Most programs outside the music stages stream free, and live viewings of the keynote and THE PRIMALS concert go to Aeon Cinema locations.

Fourth Boundary announced on October 5 that it will run "Edda's Bag," a collaboration ARG with Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIV, as an advance implementation at Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 in TOKYO. The event runs October 31 to November 1 at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Halls 1-7. Participants receive a real "Edda's Bag" and walk the venue while accepting quests on their smartphones, an experience that carries FFXIV into the physical world. The work mixes elements of Fourth Boundary's Hito Series, such as Hito no Saifu, with tour-style content. Fourth Boundary warns that danger may befall players themselves and their characters, and that the piece contains horror elements on the level of the FFXIV dungeon The Tam-Tara Deepcroft (Hard) and related quests. To take part, attendees need a Fan Festival two-day pass plus a separately sold Edda's Bag experience ticket. Regular tickets cost 4,400 yen and PT tickets cost 11,000 yen, both tax included.

Square Enix released the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition on September 24, 2026. The game costs 5,478 yen including tax in both packaged and download form, the same price for either version. The content is unchanged from the existing release, but a new option lets players switch between a Graphics Priority Mode for image quality and a Performance Priority Mode for frame rate. Square Enix released six world introduction videos for Kingdom Hearts Collection [I-III] on September 25, 2026. Square Enix showed the first playable demo of Romancing SaGa 3: Destiny United at Tokyo Game Show 2026, running September 17 to 21 at Makuhari Messe. The game is a full remake of Romancing SaGa 3, the Super Famicom RPG released in 1995, and it is scheduled to launch on February 16, 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a Steam release listed for February 17, 2027. It is produced by Shinichi Tatsuke, with multiple companies including xeen involved in development, the same production approach used for the 2024 full remake Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven. The booth demo offered two sections: "Demon Lord's Palace: Rescue the Lost Gon!", which covers exploration and the rebuilt systems, and "Gwain's Nest: Evil Dragon Gwain", a boss fight with a stronger party. Square Enix gave press outlets early hands-on time with Final Fantasy VII Revelation ahead of its April 8, 2027 release. The demo covered Chapter 4, where players pilot the airship Highwind and can parachute directly from the ship to any destination rather than landing at fixed points. Previewers explored Mideel, a tropical island area new to the remake series, and Wutai, Yuffie's homeland, which was not visitable in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The parachute descent is a real-time sequence, and the Highwind's interior functions as a base with crew interactions. New playable characters Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine join the combat roster. A new system called WEAR lets each character equip job roles including Warrior, Black Mage, Knight, and Summoner, changing their abilities and appearance. The demo contained nine separate routes; outlets played roughly one hour each. A third playable slice of Final Fantasy VII Revelation is set for the Square Enix booth at Tokyo Game Show 2026.

The Dragon Quest 40th anniversary exhibition Dragon Quest the DIVE will run in Osaka from January 26 to March 14, 2027, at Grand Front Osaka's North Building Knowledge Capital Event Lab. Tohokushinsha and Square Enix announced the dates on September 7. The Tokyo run, held July 17 to September 6 at Tokyu Plaza Harajuku's Harakado, drew more than 90,000 visitors and sold out all tickets. The main attraction is the Dragon Quest VR RIDE, an immersive ride using Meta Quest 3 headsets and motion seats. Riders cross plains on a killer panther, dodge monsters in a forest, and fly through the sky with wind effects. After the ride, visitors move through zones including a castle, field, town, and item shop. A special ticket includes a framed three-pin badge set of Roto's Sword, the Sky Sword, and the Hero's Sword Kai, with the 40th anniversary logo. Ticket sales begin September 8 at 10:00 through the Square Enix app, followed by a Lawson Ticket advance sale October 6 and general sale October 21. A collab cafe with a menu different from Tokyo's will also run, open only to ticket holders.

Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, told a PAX West 2026 panel that the project is an attempt to pass FF7 to the next generation rather than a simple remake. The presentation included a trailer focused on each character's resolve, set in a world the sources describe as unseen and never before shown. Alongside the release date, Square Enix released a separate gameplay video titled Gameplay Battle & Exploration, which introduces an airship that lets players traverse a vast open world and parachute down to points of interest. McDonald's is bringing SpongeBob SquarePants and One Piece together for a Happy Meal collaboration launching September 15, 2026. The company began streaming an animated commercial on Monday that shows SpongeBob characters dressed as One Piece's Straw Hat Pirates and antagonists, following an initial teaser image posted on August 13 that featured SpongeBob as Luffy. Square Enix released the final chapter of 'Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII-' for 'Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis' on August 27. The game is scheduled to end service on October 7, leaving about one month to experience the 2004 feature phone RPG, which had no other way to be played since 2018.

Creator sooncha announced on Friday that they have withdrawn the copyright for Yang Can't Live Alone from Square Enix. The manga ended on Manga UP! on August 13. sooncha will move the series to an unnamed company, with a new revised edition to be published in Japan physically and digitally. Square Enix will stop digital distribution on August 31. Translated versions remain available until their agreements end.

Square Enix's Manga UP! Global service adds Akina's The Viscount's Porky Portrait: I Married the Knight My Sister Rejected manga on Friday. The adaptation of Mogura Manami's light novels follows Mimosa, a noblewoman who accepts her sister's rejected engagement and finds a kind husband. Akina launched the manga on Gangan Online in August 2023.
