ININ Games has announced a plan to improve "R-Type Dimensions III," the full remake of Irem's horizontal shooter "R-TYPE III" developed by KRITZELKRATZ 3000, after the PC version received mostly negative reviews on Steam and a Metascore of 55 on Metacritic. The game launched on Steam on May 19. Players reported issues including problems with the wave cannon's hit detection and a perceived lack of fidelity to the original. ININ Games responded on June 2 with a schedule of updates: a mid-June patch, followed by additional updates in early July and mid-July. To support this work, the studio will invite experienced community members and additional testers from multiple regions, including Japan, to participate in feedback and verification using the Steam version. Separately, the physical edition for Western markets will not enter production until the issues are resolved. The Japanese physical edition, published by Tozai Games, is not affected. "R-Type Dimensions III" is available now on PC and Xbox Series X|S overseas. Japanese releases for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S are scheduled for June 18, with different publishers by platform.

Jun Hashimoto, Lyricist for Galaxy Express 999 and Lupin III, Dies at 86

Lyricist Jun Hashimoto died in a Tokyo hospital on May 21 due to liver cirrhosis. He was 86. Hashimoto wrote lyrics for the Galaxy Express 999 TV anime's opening and ending themes, as well as the theme song for Hayao Miyazaki's debut film Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro. His family held a private funeral.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Launches on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S

Square Enix released Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows on June 3, 2026. The standard edition costs 6,578 yen, and the Digital Deluxe Edition costs 8,201 yen. A 20% off early purchase sale for the download version runs until June 10. The Switch 2 version supports TV, tabletop, and handheld modes. The reviewer from GAME Watch reported that handheld mode performance is comparable to TV mode, with no significant frame rate or visual degradation. The Switch 2 version includes all previously released features, such as the Game Boost function (HP/MP always full, damage always 9999) and the Event Scene Fast-Forward option at 1.5x or 2x speed. Players can also start with a New Game+ mode called "Strong New Game," which begins with characters at level 60 instead of the default level 40. The game is the second installment of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, covering the story from the escape from Midgar to the Forgotten Capital. It includes a digest video of the first game for newcomers.

Game Spark reports that the third installment of Final Fantasy VII Remake, along with Persona 4 Revival and Ace Combat 8, may receive updates at June 2026 game events including Summer Game Fest, State of Play, and the Xbox Games Showcase. Witch Hat Atelier Anime Casts Ryusei Nakao and Hiiro Ishibashi

The staff for the television anime of Kamome Shirahama's Witch Hat Atelier manga announced two new cast members on Monday. Veteran voice actor Ryusei Nakao will voice Sasaran, a member of the Brimmed Cap group, while Hiiro Ishibashi has been cast as Euini. Sasaran appears in episode 10, which aired on June 1, and Euini will join the story in episode 11 on June 8. The two characters play significant roles in the upcoming Second Pentagram Test Arc. Nakao said he was looking forward to the series because he liked its world and became fond of playing a character shrouded in mystery. Ishibashi said he was drawn into the manga's world and felt honored to join a work loved around the world. Ayumu Watanabe is directing the anime at BUG FILMS. The series premiered on April 6 on Tokyo MX and other channels. Crunchyroll streams the anime as it airs, including an English dub. The manga launched in Kodansha's Morning Two magazine in July 2016 and has 16 compiled volumes as of April 2026. The franchise has over 7 million copies in circulation worldwide.

Chiikawa Anime Film Trailer Reveals Cast, Opening Theme Song

The first anime film adaptation of Nagano's Chiikawa manga, Eiga Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu, has a new trailer that reveals additional cast members and the opening theme song. Daemons of the Shadow Realm Anime Adds Five Cast Members

The television anime adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa's manga Daemons of the Shadow Realm (Yomi no Tsugai) announced five new cast members on Sunday, May 31. Yū Shimamura will voice Natsuki Kurotani, and Hayato Fujii will play Fuyuki Kurotani. Ayumu Murase joins as Blacklist. Ako Mayama and Shigeru Chiba will voice the dual role of Tenaga Ashinaga (Long Arms Long Legs), debuting in the anime's 10th episode on June 6. The anime premiered on April 4 on Tokyo MX, BS11, and other channels, and is set for two consecutive cours. Crunchyroll streams the series with a same-day English dub. Bones Film produces the anime, with Masahiro Andō directing, Noboru Takagi handling series scripts, and Nobuhiro Arai designing characters. Kenichiro Suehiro composes the music. Vaundy performs the opening theme "Tobu Toki" (Time to Fly), and singer yama performs the ending theme "Tobō yo" (Let's Fly).
