A Tokyo Game Show 2026 report describes a protagonist with unusual physical ability: high jumps, a glide, rope walking, and movement across water and cloud tops. Composing at specific locations expands the areas the player can act in.
Fourth Boundary announced on October 5 that it will run "Edda's Bag," a collaboration ARG with Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIV, as an advance implementation at Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 in TOKYO. The event runs October 31 to November 1 at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Halls 1-7. Participants receive a real "Edda's Bag" and walk the venue while accepting quests on their smartphones, an experience that carries FFXIV into the physical world. The work mixes elements of Fourth Boundary's Hito Series, such as Hito no Saifu, with tour-style content. Fourth Boundary warns that danger may befall players themselves and their characters, and that the piece contains horror elements on the level of the FFXIV dungeon The Tam-Tara Deepcroft (Hard) and related quests. To take part, attendees need a Fan Festival two-day pass plus a separately sold Edda's Bag experience ticket. Regular tickets cost 4,400 yen and PT tickets cost 11,000 yen, both tax included.
Imagineer will release the fishing action RPG Boku to Tsuri Nikki, developed by Yasuhiro Wada's studio Toybox, for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on October 8, 2026. In a Game Spark interview, Wada says the game asks players to read where fish live and cast without relying on visible fish shadows, with over 100 fish species in rivers and lakes.
Hiromoto Komatsu launched a manga adaptation of Mikito Chinen's horror novel Etsuran Genkin Ryoki Satsujin-han no Seishin Kantei Hokoku-sho on Futabasha's Web Comic Action platform on September 25. The story follows doctor Kasumi Uehara as she conducts the psychiatric examination of the serial killer behind the murders of eleven men and women in Tokyo. Futabasha published Chinen's novel in September 2025.
Aniplex announced a 15th anniversary project for the TV anime "Inu x Boku SS" and opened a special website. Details will follow in later reports. Rina Hidaka, who played Ririchiyo Shirakiin, and seven other main cast members, plus director Naokatsu Tsuda and character designer Haruko Iizuka, contributed comments. The series is scheduled for a stage event at the Kitakyushu Pop Culture Festival on November 28 and 29.
Kagura Games began distributing AliceSoft's Sengoku Rance on Steam on October 2, 2026, and the 2006 region-conquest strategy game has drawn about 350 user reviews with 94 percent rated positive, a Very Positive standing at the time of writing. It also recorded a peak concurrent player count near 2,100, according to SteamDB. Roughly 55 percent of reviews come from Simplified Chinese users and 21 percent from English users, while Japanese reviews are about 5 percent, per the Steam Scout analysis tool. The release is a general-audience edition with sexual content modified for Steam, though a patch sold alongside restores the adult elements. AliceSoft's localization partner Kagura Games has already announced plans to bring Rance 9 Helman Revolution, Rance 03 Leazas Fallen, and Rance 01 + 02 to the platform.
Hulu announced on September 28 that The Murder in the Water Mill House, the third live-action adaptation in Yukito Ayatsuji's House series, will stream in March 2027. Tomoya Oku plays Komei Konan, a character who does not appear in the original novel, and Takamasa Aoki plays Kiyoshi Shimada. Ayatsuji, director Teru Uchikata, and screenwriter Masashi Toda released comments with the announcement.
Toei Animation released the main PV for 'Our Chosen Best Adventure' on September 27, a broadcast of fan-selected episodes from Digimon Adventure, Adventure 02, Tamers, and Frontier. The PV shows the first footage from the TV anime Digimon Adventure restored in HD remaster and unveils the opening theme 'SHAKARIKI!!' sung by Koji Miyazaki and Takayoshi Tanimoto. Miyabi Nagano, a former HKT48 member who has focused on gravure work since this summer, held a release event for her second DVD, Boku dake no Idol, on August 23 at Sofmap Akiba Amusement Hall. The Spice Visual release runs 125 minutes and costs 4620 yen. It was shot in Okinawa this spring around the concept of a southern getaway date with a boyfriend, the viewer. A third DVD is scheduled for November 20.
At Tokyo Game Show 2026, G-Mode's in-development remake Continued Portopia Serial Murder Case: Burial of Oblivion was playable on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch. The demo opens with Kozo Yamakawa's mysterious suicide and names the protagonist Daigo Go, previously just Boss. The magnifying glass cursor turns red with a "!" bubble over evidence, phone numbers register automatically, and the underground maze now shows a map.
The television anime of the Thunder 3 manga will return for a second season next year, the staff announced Thursday. Hiroya Oku confirmed in September that he created the manga under the pen name Yuki Ikeda. The adaptation premiered on Fuji-TV's +Ultra block on July 8 and streamed worldwide on Netflix the same day. Kodansha USA publishes the manga in English.

Strong fates resist his meddling, and Rudeus is a wild card because of his otherworldly nature. Pregnancy weakens fate, leaving Roxy vulnerable for roughly nine months. He proposes Rudeus kill Orsted instead, and Rudeus agrees, buying time and writing to Eris.
MIXI announced a new Monster Strike anime, Mera x Death: Shinigami to Boku no Ijo na Koi, for January 5, 2027 on TOKYO MX and 10 other channels plus streaming. Kenta Kushitani directs at Qzil.la and studio keel, with Daisuke Ohigashi on series scripts, Tadashi Sakazaki designing characters, and music by Masaru Yokoyama, Kana Hashiguchi, and Natsuki Hamada.
Hiroya Oku confirmed on social media Thursday that he created the Thunder 3 manga under the pen name Yuki Ikeda. He said the pen name kept a first-chapter surprise intact for new readers, one that the Oku name would have lessened. The series launched in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine in May 2022, entered its climax in January 2025, went on hiatus that March over Ikeda's health, returned in February, and ended on June 5.
Chizu Kamiko's Seijo Mellia to Sennen Okoku no Kishi ended on the KadoComi website on Friday. The story follows Melia, a girl who cannot use magic and suffers under new caretakers after being separated from her grandmother, until she meets Douglas, a knight searching for a cure for the princess's illness. Kamiko launched the series on Kadokawa's Young Ace Up platform in 2021. Kadokawa shipped the sixth compiled volume in June 2025.
CCMC began selling the High-Difficulty Added MAP & AZKi Joins Pack for Star Sora Iro Fantasy ~Magic Reaching the Sky~ on Steam on September 25, 2026. The DLC costs 550 yen including tax and adds maps that open after the main story is cleared, along with new enemy characters and gimmicks. hololive VTuber AZKi joins as a support character, and she can be added to the party before the main game is finished. The main game, a side-scrolling action title in the Metroidvania style that mixes 2D and 3D, stars Tokino Sora and has been on Steam since May 30, 2025, priced at 1,100 yen including tax. Developer Altoseal and Hoshikuzunoyoru built it, and it ships under CCMC's holo Indie brand, which publishes derivative games made with fans and creators. The staff for Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation III announced in a video on Sunday that the season's second cour will premiere in 2027. Season 3 covers the Eris Training Arc storyline, which began in the 13th volume of the original novel series. The Chaos Breaker arc started with the eighth episode on August 16. New cast members include Ai Kakuma as Eris Boreas Greyrat, Haruka Tomatsu as Nina Farion, and Tetsu Inada as Gal Farion. Yuiko Ohara performs the opening theme Ketsui no Uta, and Mika Nakashima performs the ending theme Inori, Owareba. Shinoda of the rock band Hitorie wrote the new song's lyrics and music. The anime debuted on Tokyo MX and BS11 on July 5. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired and is also streaming an English dub. Season 3's second cour follows the show's current run on Crunchyroll as part of its Summer 2026 lineup.

Hiroya Oku, the manga artist behind GANTZ, stated on September 24, 2026 that Yuki Ikeda, the credited author of Thunder 3, is his own pen name. Oku posted the confirmation on his X account. He said the pen name existed because a chapter 1 twist would have been weakened if his real name had been attached, and he wanted first-time readers to be surprised. Thunder 3 began serialization in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine in May 2022 and reached its final chapter in the July 2026 issue, released on June 5, 2026. The collected volumes total 10, with the last volume released on August 17. The TV anime adaptation premiered on July 8, 2026 and its final episode, Episode 12, is set to air on September 30. Online speculation about the art style resembling GANTZ had circulated for some time before Oku's post.

Kagura Games and MangaGamer announced on September 24 that the Steam version of Sengoku Rance will launch on October 2. AliceSoft developed the original game, which came out in 2006 as the seventh entry in the Rance series. The story follows protagonist Rance and his partner Sill as they visit the eastern country called JAPAN, where Rance becomes a provincial lord and fights to unify the realm. Players manage territory, armies, and generals in a region conquest simulation, with turn-based tactical battles and branching story events. Recruitable generals each have unique abilities and personal scenarios, and the game supports repeated playthroughs with carried-over elements. The Steam release is planned with a Japanese interface and subtitles. Kagura Games' social media account lists October 2, while the Steam store page lists October 1, a difference attributed to time zone factors.
Netflix will stream the live-action series Kokumin Quiz worldwide starting December 17, with all 8 episodes released at once. Takayuki Yamada plays K.K., the host of the in-story quiz program that has become Japan's supreme authority in a parallel-world setting. The show adapts the manga written by Reiichi Sugimoto and illustrated by Shinkichi Kato, published in 1993, which the production describes as having been called impossible to adapt. VEID Inc. began accepting entries on October 1 for the TikTok VTuber Group AUDITION, an open call for the founding members of a VTuber unit that will perform primarily on TikTok LIVE. Entries close at 23:59 on November 1. VEID is a joint venture between Kotobukiya Co., Ltd. and Mujuryoku Inc., both headquartered in Tachikawa, Tokyo. Kotobukiya is led by representative director and president Kazuyuki Shimizu, and VEID by representative director and president Kunio Ono. Mujuryoku handles technical and operational support for the audition and has prior work in VTuber production, live streaming operations, motion capture, and 3DCG production. No VTuber or streaming experience is required. VEID supplies 3D models and a dedicated studio for the group. There is no application fee and no screening fee. Selection moves from a profile and video entry to a first screening, then an interview and practical skills test, and finally a pass and contract.

Capcom announced on September 20, 2026 that the fighting game Street Fighter 6 and the anime Detective Pretty Cure are crossing over. The reveal came at the Capcom Stage Live <DAY-2> event at Tokyo Game Show 2026. A four-episode original collaboration story is scheduled to be distributed starting December 17. In the story, an incident occurs in which arcade cabinets in the Battle Hub are broken and their screens go completely black, and Cure Answer and the others investigate the truth behind it. A key visual and part of the story were shown at the stage event. Game screens also showed Luke, Jamie, and Kimberly from Street Fighter 6 drawn in a Precure-style touch. The episode follows Old Rudeus, who arrived from the future in Episode 12 via past-transfer magic and left Rudeus a diary recording what is to come. The cuts show Rudeus holding the diary and an old man describing a shocking future. The series airs Sundays at 24:00 on TOKYO MX, BS11 and others.
Level-5 is running a playable booth for Snack World RELOADED at Tokyo Game Show 2026, held at Makuhari Messe from September 17 to 21, 2026. The game is a remake of Snack World: TreJarers, the 2017 Nintendo 3DS title, and is set for release in 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam at a price not yet announced. A new mode called the Treasure Board, also described as the Trejara Board, lets players control the anime protagonist Chup and advance through stages laid out like a board game, defeating a mid-boss in each stage before a boss at the far end within a time limit. Weapons called Jara include swords, axes, bows, and spears, each with different range, speed, and Buster attributes that deal extra damage to specific enemy races. The demo ends with a choice between two bosses, Medusa and Dullahan. Players who try the booth receive an original bandana.

Juliet, the high school cheerleader and zombie hunter, returns in a new costume. Her boyfriend Nick is a severed head again. Development is handled by JP UNIVERSE, the studio Hajime Tabata founded in 2022 after directing Final Fantasy XV. Original scenario writer Masahiro Yuki and original character designer NekoshowguN are involved. The game is playable at the Sega Partners Corner inside the Sega/Atlus booth at Tokyo Game Show 2026, running at Makuhari Messe from September 17 to 21, with four demo stations. Stage events are set for September 18 at the Sega Event Stage and September 19 at the TGS2026 Main Stage. Price and CERO rating are undecided.
The musical Hakuoki Shinkai Reimeiroku will run at Tokyo's Tennozu Galaxy Theater from October 16 to October 25, 2026, as the 20th work in the Hakuoki Shinkai musical series.
