Cave released Shinyaku DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu on Steam on August 27, marking the studio's first self-developed and published home console title since the 2013 Xbox 360 version of DoDonPachi Saidaioujou. The game is a refined version of the 2008 arcade classic DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu, rebuilt for modern players. Its headline feature is Assist Mode, which slows enemy bullets as they approach the player's ship, making the game easier to play without reducing bullet density. A trial version distributed in June let players test the first two stages, and the full release adds a new Stage 6 with a new boss named Beyond, voiced by Kikuko Inoue. Furyu Corporation announced on August 26 that its upcoming titles ANOMALITH and CRYMELIGHT will be playable at gamescom 2026, PAX WEST 2026, and Tokyo Game Show 2026. The gamescom appearance runs from August 26 to August 30 in Cologne, Germany, at Hall 10.1, Stand F063. PAX WEST 2026 takes place September 4 to September 7 in Seattle, Washington, at Booth 633. Tokyo Game Show 2026 runs September 17 to September 21 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, at Booth 09-C63. At Tokyo Game Show, attendees can play a complete demo of CRYMELIGHT covering the main story from its start, including battles, plus the latest ANOMALITH demo that incorporates the September update. Furyu also released an update for the ANOMALITH demo currently on Steam, based on user feedback. The update adds mouse support for menus and inventory, expands keyboard key bindings, adds mouse sensitivity adjustment, allows recovery items to be used via shortcut, and adjusts player animations. ANOMALITH is a survival third-person shooter set in a Showa-era Japan where players explore anomalous spaces. CRYMELIGHT is a roguelike action game set in the afterlife where characters confess sins to grow stronger. ANOMALITH releases October 29, and CRYMELIGHT releases November 5.

Sega began accepting advance applications on August 17 for the Stranger Than Heaven theater at Tokyo Game Show 2026. The sixth volume of Toryumon Takeda's Doga announced the series will end with the seventh volume, which ships in winter 2026. The story follows Yote, a young lord killed by robbers and revived in a cyborg body, who hires the street orphan Doga to help him find the mermaids who can make him human again. Takeda launched the series on Futabasha's Web Action site in October 2023. Futabasha shipped the sixth volume on July 24.

RYUKI, a member of the 8-member dance and vocal group MAZZEL, will make his acting debut in the film 'RYUJI', starring Yagira Yuya. The film is a new adaptation of the 1983 film 'Ryuji', which became a legend in Japanese film history after its screenwriter and lead actor Kaneko Masatsugu died eight days after the original release. RYUKI plays Miyauchi, a member of a rival yakuza organization who bears a deep grudge after being wounded by Ryuji in the past. The additional cast also includes Miyake Ken, Ito Hideaki, Chihara Junior, and Tanaka Misato. The film is directed by Nobuo Mizuta and releases on October 30. The theme song is 'It's not a bad life' by BE:FIRST, with JUNON of BE:FIRST also appearing in the cast as Hiroshi. Advance movie tickets go on sale July 31 with a set of six original postcards as a bonus.

Furyu announced that its two upcoming titles, Anomalith and Crymelight, will have playable demos at ChinaJoy 2026, held from July 31 to August 3 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. Both games are planned for release on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam. Anomalith is set in a Showa-era retro Japan and features a liminal-space-like Otherworld for exploration, with combat that combines customizable gun action and Aberration Skills for offense and defense. Crymelight uses enemies' death throes, generated by defeating them with sin-based weapons, to power acceleration actions, and includes a build system where players collect trump-style skill cards to form poker hands. Crymelight will also be exhibited at Tokyo Game Dungeon 13 on August 8, with UI updates and tutorial additions improving playability. Anomalith is scheduled for release on October 29, and Crymelight on November 5.

Fryu has announced a limited-time collaboration between its purikura machine Bloomit and INFOLD's mobile game Love and Deepspace, celebrating the game's 2.5th anniversary. The event runs from July 20 to August 31, 2026, at approximately 500 Bloomit machines nationwide. Players can take two-shot style photos with five male leads: Seiya, Rei, Homura, Shin, and Mahiru. Each character has a dedicated photo frame, sticker design, and newly recorded guide voice. Konami released a collaboration bundle of SILENT HILL f and Higurashi When They Cry Hou on Steam on July 15, 2026. Ishibashi said he was drawn into the manga's world and felt honored to join a work loved around the world. Ayumu Watanabe is directing the anime at BUG FILMS. The series premiered on April 6 on Tokyo MX and other channels. Crunchyroll streams the anime as it airs, including an English dub. The manga launched in Kodansha's Morning Two magazine in July 2016 and has 16 compiled volumes as of April 2026. The franchise has over 7 million copies in circulation worldwide.

The game is developed by Mexican studio Wabisabi Games and published by Acclaim. The demo includes five modes: freestyle, race, slalom, and a relaxed 'chill' mode. The game, set in a Showa-era liminal space called Ikai, features scenario writer Romeo Tanaka and character designer MON. It is scheduled for release on October 29 for PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Windows.

SB Creative has listed the 21st and final volume of Shirow Shiratori's The Ryuo's Work Is Never Done! light novel series for a July 15 release. The main story concluded with the 20th volume in June 2025, but Shiratori has expressed interest in writing more about the characters and spinoff stories.

Greenwich Entertainment released the first trailer for Ryuya Suzuki's indie feature Jinsei, which opens in New York on June 5 and nationwide on June 12. The hand-drawn film follows one protagonist across a hundred years, voiced by rapper Ace Cool, and has already won a Special Jury Prize at the New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival.
