Perplexity announced it is open-sourcing SPACE, the sandbox platform it moved to in July 2026 after replacing a commercial provider. Perplexity says agent governance is an engineering problem that open source is required to solve, since developers who can inspect and adapt the runtime will find more weaknesses. SPACE has been tested against the network bypass techniques used in a July 2026 incident in which an OpenAI agent hacked Hugging Face.

On October 14, Starlink connections in Ukraine were restricted when users moved faster than 160 km/h, an adviser to Ukraine's president said, and drone missions, logistics and reconnaissance on the front lines became difficult. Service was restored in the early hours of October 15. Elon Musk said the military Starshield system is owned by the U.S. government and restrictions are decided by the U.S. military and the President.

SpaceXAI announced Grok Voice 3.0 on October 14, 2026. In Artificial Analysis tests, each metric improved over Grok Voice 2.0 and surpassed GPT-Live-1 (Astra, medium) and Gemini 3.8 Live (Ext. Thinking, High). On the Speech to Speech Index it ranked first at 86.9. Input audio costs $4.80 per hour, the same as version 2.0, and the Voice Agent API costs $0.08 per minute.

Seven Seas announced six new licenses on Wednesday, five manga and one novel series, all scheduled for 2027. The titles are Ushiyama-san, Mouse Royale, This World is Worth Fighting For, The Duke is Obsessed with the Vicious Omega, My House Cat Became the World's Strongest?!, and Alice, All the Way to Outer Space. Release dates run from June through August 2027.

Anime Anime surveyed the main Japanese streaming services in October 2026 and found no subscription option for Yamato yo Towa ni REBEL3199. DMM TV, U-NEXT, Amazon Prime Video, Lemino, Hulu and FOD carry it as per-chapter rentals, with chapter one at 1,100 yen and later chapters at 1,430 yen on most services. TSUTAYA DISCAS, d Anime Store, Netflix, Disney+, ABEMA and YouTube had no listing. The seventh film opens in theaters on October 30.

Anthropic released Claude for Google Workspace as a public beta, per GIGAZINE. The add-on connects Claude to Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides from each tool's Extensions menu, letting users have Claude read an open file and revise text, change heading styles, or create charts. Large rewrites appear as proposed edits in the sidebar, with locations highlighted and apply or reject controls. The default is a review-before-editing mode; an approve-all-edits option is also available.

A website opened on Tuesday to announce that Hideaki Anno and Yutaka Izubuchi are directing the feature-length anime film Cosmoship Yamato √2199 at Production I.G and Studio Khara. Anno is credited for planning, executive production and design works, with Izubuchi on design works. Production I.G founder Mitsuhisa Ishikawa shares the planning credit, and Shin Office Academy is presenting the project. The √ symbol in the title is pronounced "Root." Anno commented that he wants to keep making Yamato to fulfill a childhood dream and to carry the wishes of his own and the next generation. The announcement came on October 6, the anniversary of the original Space Battleship Yamato television premiere in 1974. A teaser visual shows the Yamato attempting to launch from a devastated land toward space. A release date is not yet decided. Production began in 2024, when Anno first announced he was working on a new Yamato theatrical anime with new footage.

Bandai Namco Filmworks will hold "SUNRISE WORLD ~Deformed Robot Fair~ VOL.3" at 6 Sunrise World stores starting October 9. The fair features deformed robots from six works, including Space Runaway Ideon, Fang of the Sun Dougram, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, Brave of the Sun Fighbird, Future GPX Cyber Formula, and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. Toei Tokusatsu YouTube Official began free streaming of Space Sheriff Gavan on September 30. Episodes 1 and 2 are up, and the playlist indicates new episodes arrive on Wednesdays. The 1982 series, the first entry in the Metal Hero Series, ran 44 episodes and starred Kenji Ohba as Ichijouji Retsu. Seventeen German game companies visited Japan around Tokyo Game Show 2026 as part of a Japan market development project backed by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. At a pitch and networking reception at Akihabara UDX, a representative from Germany's Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space described a system that subsidizes up to 50 percent of game development costs, capped at 8 million euros per project, with more than 700 projects supported since 2019. A Canadian studio received 3.2 million euros toward an office in Munich. From Japan's side, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Cultural Creation Industry Division said the content industry is one of 17 government strategic fields, targeting 20 trillion yen in overseas sales by 2033, with games accounting for roughly 60 percent of overseas content sales. The delegates span development, publishing, marketing, XR, and consulting, and include Kalypso Media Group and ROCKFISH Games.

Crunchyroll is streaming same-day English dubs for FX Fighter Kurumi-chan, #I'm Looking For Zombie, and Reborn as a Space Mercenary. The Kurumi-chan dub began Thursday and stars Kimoy Lee as Kurumi and Kate Clarke as Kozue. The #I'm Looking For Zombie dub starts Saturday with Madeline Dorroh as Aki. The Reborn as a Space Mercenary dub starts Sunday with Kyle Phillips as Hiro.

Junko Yagami sings the ending theme for "Yamato yo Towa ni REBEL3199 Chapter 7: Rainbow-Colored Reincarnation," the final chapter of the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 series. The song, "Haruka e, Towa e," has lyrics by Yohei Matsui, music by Hiroshi Miyagawa and Akira Miyagawa, and arrangement by Akira Miyagawa. Yagami last performed a Yamato theme in 1983 with "Love Supreme ~Shijou no Ai~" for Space Battleship Yamato: Final Chapter. The music video is out on the official YouTube channel. Seven character visuals on rainbow-colored backgrounds also released, covering figures including Susumu Kodai, Yuki Mori, and Sasha. The chapter begins screenings on Friday, October 30, 2026. General director and scriptwriter Harutoshi Fukui leads the production, with Naomichi Yamato directing and Satelight on animation. The cast includes Daisuke Ono, Houko Kuwashima, Megumi Han, and Koichi Yamadera.

Toshio Masuda, the director and screenwriter who supervised the original Space Battleship Yamato television series and went on to direct several of its theatrical films, died of old age on August 26. He was 98. Mainichi Shimbun and Yomiuri Shimbun both reported the death. Masuda was born in Kobe in October 1927. He joined Nikkatsu in 1954, after working for Shintoho, and made his directorial debut in 1958 with Kokoro to Nikutai no Tabi. At Nikkatsu he directed Rusty Knife, Red Handkerchief, and Red Quay. He co-directed the Japanese sequences of the 1970 film Tora! Tora! Tora! and was nominated for the Best Director Award at the 4th and 13th Japan Academy Film Prizes, for The Battle of Port Arthur and Company Executives. In anime, he oversaw the scripts and supervised the 1974 Star Blazers television series, directed the 1977 Space Battleship Yamato compilation film, and worked as director and screenwriter on the 1978 film Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato, the 1979 film Space Battleship Yamato: The New Voyage, and the 1980 film Be Forever Yamato.

Kwalee released RetroSpace on October 2, 2026. The Wild Gentlemen developed the game, which Kwalee describes as an immersive disco-punk space horror first-person shooter. Players control a nameless cleaner aboard the space station Aurora 5, which a sentient black hole has swallowed. Creatures that mix human, animal, and plant traits roam the station. The base price is 2600 yen, with the PlayStation 5 version at 2200 yen and the Xbox Series X|S version at 2350 yen, all tax included, and a 10 percent launch sale is running. A launch trailer is out. Players can use stealth, hacking, distractions, traps, and hidden routes to get past obstacles, and the game includes Mutamods, mutation abilities with irreversible side effects. After death the cleaner can resume as a clone.

Space Petal Studio will exhibit the 2.5D action RPG Edentopia at Tokyo Game Show 2026, held at Makuhari Messe from September 17 to 20. The booth sits in Hall 9, Indie Game Corner E27, and offers a playable demo covering spell-based battles, exploration, monster combat, and boss challenges. A computer science graduate student has reverse-engineered the pseudo-random number generator behind Factorio's quality mechanic. Based on a 2014 tip from a former developer, he confirmed the game uses taus88, three combined linear feedback shift registers. By recycling repair packs in Factorio 2.0, he observed 88 bits of output over 44 operations, reconstructed the generator's internal state, and used in-game circuits to predict future quality rolls. He also automated skipping unfavorable random numbers to reach Legendary results.

The main visual and full trailer for Yamato yo Towa ni: REBEL3199 Chapter 7: Rainbow-Colored Reincarnation were released on September 18. The film is the final chapter of the seven-part Space Battleship Yamato 2199 series reimagining of the 1980 film Yamato yo Towa ni. It opens October 30. A second Movie Ticket Card with a B2 poster, drawn by character designer Nobuteru Yuki, went on sale the same day.

The game rebuilds the battles, exploration, and character development of Part 1 of Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space, which began as a smartphone RPG in 2017. Developer Only4Gamers began a limited-time free giveaway of Space Menace on Steam on September 17. The giveaway runs until 2:00 AM on September 24. Players who add the game to their library during that window keep it at no cost afterward. The regular price is 905 yen including tax. Space Menace is a top-down real-time strategy game set in space. The player starts with a single spaceship, takes missions from factions, builds reputation, and uses the rewards to upgrade and construct ships. Ships can be specialized for roles such as EMP or as carriers that launch fighters. The game was released in November 2022. On Steam it holds a 57 percent positive rating from 38 user reviews, a Mixed rating, with players responding to the variety of builds and the simple, casual combat. A sequel, Space Menace 2, appeared in 2025 and is currently 60 percent off at 540 yen including tax, down from 1,350 yen.

Another Eden Begins arrives on September 17 for Switch 2 and Switch, rebuilding the first part of the 2017 smartphone RPG Another Eden as a buy-to-play console title. Producer Shinnosuke Hirasawa told 4Gamer that the team first tried running the existing systems on console hardware, found them thin, and rebuilt movement, battle, and progression instead. The original story is kept; the fields around it were redrawn and expanded.

The Gavan Infinity Laser ver. soft vinyl figure, priced at 1,100 yen, ships September 19, 2026. HP Japan began offering the Japanese version of HP Build Workspace, a cloud service for the architecture, engineering and construction industry, on September 2. The service manages paper and digital drawings in one place so site workers always reference the latest version. Printed drawings carry QR codes that flag outdated copies. A separate AI feature converts scanned drawings into editable CAD data. HP also announced a compatible large format printer.

Oka says the theme, that people cannot understand each other yet can live together, continues the ground of his earlier work Moonless Moon. The memory-tracing system came from 3D modeler Kataura Moe. At gamescom 2026, RocketWerkz showed Kitten Space Agency, a sandbox physics-based space development sim positioned as a spiritual successor to Kerbal Space Program. Players build rockets from parts, balance weight and fuel, and run missions. The developer says revenue from DayZ and Icarus covers development costs, so the game is distributed for free while crowdfunding runs on a dedicated site. Original KSP creator Felipe Falanghe is involved as a consultant.

The story follows the final Federation-Zeon battle in space, Amuro's encounter with the Newtype Lalah, and the last clash between Amuro and Char.

NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has imaged the crater left by a SpaceX Falcon 9 upper stage that crashed on the Moon on August 5, 2026. The crater is about 18 meters wide and less than 3 meters deep. The impact site was identified through a collaboration involving NASA, amateur astronomers, and South Korea's Danuri orbiter.
