Square Enix will show new footage of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the concluding chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, during gamescom Opening Night Live on August 26 at 3:00 AM JST. Director Naoki Hamaguchi is scheduled to appear at the event, which is hosted by Geoff Keighley. The game was first announced during Summer Game Fest 2026 in June. Revelation features an open world that players explore from the airship Highwind, with destinations including Midgar's outskirts, green islands, and the ninja nation of Wutai. Characters parachute from the Highwind to reach these areas. The story reunites the party around Cloud to save the planet. New gameplay elements include a Weight Mode that slows time for strategic action selection, and a Wear System where costumes grant special abilities. The game is scheduled for release in spring 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Nobuo Uematsu's three-night talk event on the Final Fantasy VII soundtrack used Square Enix-provided para data to explain the music track by track. RTA in Japan's organizers released the full schedule for the large-scale speedrunning event "RTA-chan's Summer Vacation" on August 1, 2026. The event runs from August 9 to 15 and is organized by volunteers who rent RTA in Japan's streaming channel. Skilled players from venues across Japan and online will perform non-stop RTA runs of various game titles throughout the week. The lineup spans well-known titles such as "Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot," "Dragon Quest VII Reimagined," "Tales of Berseria Remaster," "Super Mario World," and "Resident Evil 3," alongside more unusual picks like "Major Wii: Perfect Closer," "GeoGuessr," "Chatan Yara Kushanku," and "Ketsu Battler." Square Enix director Naoki Hamaguchi said the Final Fantasy VII Remake series is selling several times more than expected following the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Revelation at Summer Game Fest 2026. In an interview with Automaton, Hamaguchi said the official announcement and trailer received a very good response, with over 30 media interviews in North America and Europe plus additional interviews in China. He noted that the PC market, particularly in Simplified Chinese-speaking regions, has become incredibly strong, comparable to English-speaking regions. Hamaguchi also discussed how user feedback from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth influenced development of the new title, including making mini-games skippable and adjusting rewards. He said the development team has retained over 90% of its staff across the trilogy, a fact that surprised overseas observers. Regarding physical releases, Hamaguchi said he personally favors physical versions and that Square Enix is positively considering a physical package for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, though platform regulations and media capacity are under discussion. Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for release in spring 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

Square Enix held the FINAL FANTASY XIV Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin on July 25 and 26, where the keynote speech delivered a wave of new information for the MMORPG. The new tank job Bastion was unveiled, a main tank that fights with a weapon called Magakou, which combines a shield, melee weapon, and ranged weapon on both arms. Bastion will be implemented in the latest expansion Hakkin no Wanderer, scheduled for release in January 2027. The keynote also announced a new 8-person raid collaboration with the FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE series, titled BEYOND THE LIFESTREAM, with scenario by Motomu Toriyama, supervision by Kazushige Nojima, and design supervision by Tetsuya Nomura. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of FFXIV will release on August 4, with free service for about one month after release. Square Enix has opened pre-orders for a new line of mascot plush toys called Pocket Peoplets, featuring characters from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Final Fantasy X. The lineup includes 11 characters total: Cloud, Aerith, Tifa, and Sephiroth from FF7R, and Tidus, Yuna, Wakka, Lulu, Kimahri, Auron, and Rikku from FF10. Each Pocket Peoplet is described as compact enough to fit in a pocket, with a soft, fluffy texture and large eyes designed for attaching to bags or displaying at home or in an office. Each mascot is priced at 2,090 yen (tax included). The release date is set for November 14, 2026. Pre-orders are available now through the Square Enix e-STORE, the company's official online shop.
